Doña Merced Elementary School

This is the strangest first day of school ever! Yet, I am overwhelmed with pride at how our teachers are dressed up and doing everything they can to get to know their new students and make them feel welcomed and excited for the year. If you are having technical difficulties from home, please be patient. These teachers will continue to do whatever it takes to get everyone up and running even if it takes a little time.

So nice to see you! Distribution of student materials is underway! If you have not picked up textbooks and supplies for your child please do so by 1 o’clock today. Otherwise, you can come tomorrow between 10:30 AM and noon or next Monday morning between 7:30 and 9:00 AM.

We are all ready for you to come and get your textbooks and materials tomorrow! We have decided to have you park and walk through the gate by the MPR rather than driving through the drop-off lane to distribute items. Someone will be out to direct you when you arrive. See you soon!

In order to finalize registration for the first day of school and ensure your child's class placement/schedule, all families must complete online data confirmation in the Aeries parent portal. Please go to https://centralsd.asp.aeries.net/Student and log in with your email address and password in order to verify your information and complete the process. If you have forgotten your password, please click on the "Forgot Password" link and enter your email. If you still cannot log in, please call the CSD Tech Department at 909-484-5301.

Isabella and Samantha are creating beauty of their own using techniques they learned from Ms. Marlene in their Meet the Masters class, provided to us each year as a result of parent donations and participation with our wonderful PTA. Thank you, girls, for sharing your amazing work!

Sunsets provided a beautiful picture for two Doña teachers. Mrs. Moralez sent a photo from Lake Havasu and said it always looks like this....no filter needed. Mrs. Gregoire, Chloe and Cynthia caught a gorgeous view from their backyard! Thank you for sharing!

Yosemite and Lake Tahoe both provided some amazing views for our Kinder Para, Mrs. Solberg and her son Landon, a Doña student. Thank you for sharing with us!

William and AJ became part of the beauty they found up at Mt. Baldy! Mrs. Webb, Jackson and Nixon sent the gorgeous picture of the sun reflecting on the Kolob Reservoir in Utah. Thanks for participating in our beauty challenge!

More staff and students have found beauty in their world. Thanks to Mrs. Crocker for the gorgeous sunset, to Mrs. Alverez for the butterfly she and her husband found while walking through Claremont, to Gabe for the amazing view of the Pacific Ocean he found while horse back riding inRefugio Canyon, and to Hannah and Emily for another stunning picture of Big Bear Lake!

Doña students have risen to the challenge to fine beauty in their world - Pepper at the Route 66 Community Garden/Farm where she is tending vegetables in a raised bed and Christian along a walking path in Tahoe. Thank you for sharing your photos with us!

When school first closed in March I challenged myself to find beauty in the world every day till students returned to school. It’s been such a life-giving project in the midst of some difficult times and I’d love to have Dona students and staff join me in looking for the good in your world. Email your favorites to me at pschlappi@csd.k12.ca.us and I will use them to create a display at school for you when we return. I may even post some here! Here are four of the 83 beautiful things I have found so far.

The wonderful Doña staff suprised me with a thank you parade this afternoon, reaffirming why I love these people so much! Not only are they top-notch educators, they are truly kind, thoughtful and caring human beings. Thank you for touching my heart in such a special way today! ❤️ Mrs. Schlappi
